The world dreamed by Teefa is very unlike her arboreal one. It has many vast deserts and great rolling grassy plains. It also has two-legged humans and centauroids, four-legged humans. Hroma, a wild red-haired women warrior and a rebel, has been exiled by her people and captured by a centauroid tribe. But she and Washapa, a centauroid warrior, fall in love, and they flee from the centauroids. Eventually, just as they're about to be caught, they pass into another world through the Prism of Many Ways. But they have no choice of which way to take.
